MY STORY

Baritone and Vocal Coach

I studied singing with John and Marie Tainsh. I have sung more than 45 roles in opera with Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group and Opera Club, Opera Camerata, In House Opera, Opera on a Shoestring and Edinburgh Grand Opera. I have been a member of Edinburgh Festival Chorus since 1970, performing with internationally acclaimed conductors, orchestras, singers and vocal coaches both as a chorus member and as a soloist in several Edinburgh International Festival concerts.

During my extensive career singing Opera, I have also built up a wide solo repertoire in oratorio, concert works and recitals ranging from Bach to Walton, including Bach's St Matthew and St John Passions, Orff's Carmina Burana, Haydn's Creation, Berlioz' Damnation of Faust,  Handel's Messiah and the Requiems of Britten, Fauré, Mozart and Verdi.

Lieder recitals include all three Schubert cycles, Schumann's Dichterliebe and other songs, songs by Faure and Duparc, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Des Knaben Wunderhorn (Mahler), and English cycles (e.g. A Shropshire Lad, Songs of Travel).

Operatic roles include: William Tell (Rossini, William Tell), Belcore and Dulcamara (Donizetti, L'Elisir d'Amore), Nabucco (Verdi, Nabucco), Macbeth (Verdi, Macbeth), Germont Pere (Verdi, La Traviata), Prince Igor (Rimsky-Korsacov, Prince Igor), Herod (Massenet, Hérodiade), Pilgrim (Vaughan Williams,The Pilgrim's Progress) and Falstaff (Vaughan Williams, Sir John in Love). I have also played Noye (Britten, Noye's Fludde) and Tevye (Bock, Fiddler on the Roof).
